In Search of
Truth Our first topic will be truth. Truth is something that we all
want. We don’t want people lying
to us. In Elvis’ movie, Live a
Little, Love a Little, he made the statement, “My name is Greg Nolan and
I have the truth,” to get job interviews. That statement was supposed to be so intriguing that he was
able to get two interviews and two jobs at the same time. Larry Geller wrote a book titled, The
Truth About Elvis, and another book titled, Elvis’ Search For
Truth, in which he discusses Elvis’ desire for spiritual
enlightenment. It’s too bad this
was not common knowledge when Elvis was available to get his view on God
and the Bible. In our courtrooms witnesses take an oath to “tell
the truth,, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.” Truth seems elusive these days with
all the different faiths, beliefs, and doctrines floating around. Even ordinary truth between friends
may not be very truthful. We all
search for truth in some way or other.
The truth that means the most to me is
the truth in the Bible. I can
rely on it because there is proof positive that God does know the
beginning from the end in all matters.
If you read Daniel chapter 2, you will find that the great king
Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled him; but what troubled him more
was that his trusted advisors could not tell him the dream and interpret
it for him. He became furious
that these so-called magicians, astrologers, enchanters, soothsayers, and
sorcerers could not reveal his dream for him (he couldn’t remember the
dream).
Even though Elvis is no longer
physically with us, he still inspires in various ways to affect others.
