Bill Giant, Bernie Baum e Florence Kaye escreveram City By
Night para o filme de Elvis de 1967, Double Trouble. A versão do
filme tinha instrumentos acrescentados. Elvis gravou a canção no Radio
Recorders em Junho de 1966. O take 3 foi o escolhido pela RCA para lançar.
