Danny Boy foi escrita em 1913 por Frederic Edward Weatherly, com música adaptada de uma canção irlandesa, Londonderry Air. A canção foi gravada vezes incontáveis ao longo dos anos por artistas como Ernestine Shumank-Heink (Victor 88592) em 1918, Gracie Fields (Victor 26377) em 1939, pela Glenn Miller Orchestra (Bluebird 10612) em 1940, Bing Crosby (Decca 18570) em 1943 (o lado 2 do single I’ll Be Home for Christmas), Conway Twitty (MGM 12826) nos finais de 1959 (um êxito Nº 10 na tabela Hot 100) e Ray Price (Columbia 44042) em 1967 (um êxito de country Nº 9). Danny Boy serviu de canção tema de Danny Thomas durante anos e também foi a canção da série de rádio, The O'Neills. Foi uma das canções tocadas durante o funeral de Elvis.
