Don't foi gravada em 6 de Setembro de 1957, no Radio Recorders, pouco depois de Elvis ter terminado de gravar Silent Night. Esta foi a primeira sessão que conteve uma voz feminina (Millie Kirkham). Foram gravados vinte e seis takes; o take 7 foi o escolhido para lançar. Supostamente, o último take foi gravado com as luzes do estúdio apagadas e Elvis deitado no chão. Jerry Leiber e Mike Stoller escreveram Don't a pedido de Elvis. O lançamento em single de Don't substituiu a canção Get A Job das Sillhouettes na tabela Top 100, que ocupava o 1º lugar. Depois de uma semana no topo, foi substituída pela Tequilla, dos Champs. Don't passou um total de 20 semanas na tabela Top 100. Chegou à 2ª posição na tabela Country Best-Seller e à 4ª posição na tabela de rhythm and blues. Encomendas antecipadas deste disco ultrapassaram um milhão de exemplares.
