Mac Davis escreveu Don't Cry Daddy depois do seu filho, Scotty, lhe dizer, "Não chores, papá", ao ver a reacção chorosa do pai perante um boletim noticioso sobre um massacre no Vietnam. Elvis gravou a canção no American Sound Studios, em Memphis, em 15 de Janeiro de 1969. Ronnie Milsap cantou em harmonia e Ed Kollis tocou harmónica na gravação. O lançamento em single teve uma permanência de 13 semanas na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard, chegando à 6ª posição. Alcançou a 13ª posição na tabela country. As vendas de mais de um milhão de exemplares foram alcançadas e um Disco de Ouro foi certificado pela RIAA em 21 de Janeiro de 1970.
