Elvis gravou (Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame em 26 de Junho de 1961, nos
estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. Por volta da mesma altura, Del Shannon gravou
a canção para o seu álbum de Agosto de 1961, Runaway (Big Top 1303).
O lançamento em single de Elvis teve uma permanência de 11 semanas na tabela
Hot 100 da Billboard, chegando à 4ª posição. Na Inglaterra foi número
um durante quatro semanas. (Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame vendeu mais
de um milhão de exemplares. O documentário de 1981, This Is Elvis,
utilizou a canção para abrir o filme.
