Chuck Willis escreveu e gravou I Feel So Bad (Okeh 7029) em 1954, com o título Feel So Bad. A gravação atingiu a 8ª posição na tabela de rhythm and blues. Outras versões populares incluem a de Little Milton (Checker 1162) em 1967 e a de Ray Charles (ABC 11308) em 1971, ambas utilizando o título Feel So Bad.

Elvis gravou I Feel So Bad em 12 de Março de 1961, nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. Copiou a versão de Willis quase nota por nota. Ambas as versões incluem piano e saxofone (Floyd Cramer e Boots Randolph tocaram na gravação de Elvis).
