Stanley Kesler e Bill Taylor escreveram I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone em 1954, com base no jingle da sopa da Campbell. Elvis gravou a canção pela primeira vez em 18 de Dezembro de 1954, na Sun Records. Os instrumentos foram tocados por: Elvis (guitarra), Scotty Moore (guitarra) e Bil Black (contrabaixo). O lançamento da Sun não entrou nas tabelas, nem tão pouco o relançamento da RCA em 1956. Uma versão mais lenta e com um som mais a blues de I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone, chamada My Baby’s Gone, foi gravada durante a sessão de 18 de Dezembro de 1954. Supostamente, Sam Phillips lançou primeiro essa versão aos disc-jockeys de Memphis, mas não para o público em geral. My Baby’s Gone tem saído em inúmeros lançamentos piratas.

O título original e registado era You’re Right, I’m Left, She’s Gone. Um anúncio publicitário às Celebrações do Dia Memorial de Jimmie Rodgers, em Meridian, no Mississippio, em 26 de Maio de 1955, publicou o título assim.
