Bosom of Abraham

download

(Johnson, McFaddan & Brooks)

Information:
Bosom of Abraham was written by William Johnson, George McFaddan and Ted Brooks in the late 1940s. One of the first recordings was by the Trumpeteers (Score 5031). In 1954 the Jordanaires recorded a version (Decca 29188).

Elvis recorded Bosom of Abraham on June 9 or 10, 1971, at RCA's Nashville studios. His single release failed to chart. About ten thousand copies of the record were issued in which both sides played at 33 1/3 rpm instead of 45 rpm. RCA quickly recalled the unsold copies and corrected the problem. An April 1972 backstage performance of Bosom of Abraham with the Stamps was shown in the documentary Elvis On Tour.

Lyrics:

Well you rock my soul
Down in the bosom of Abraham
Rock, rock, rock down in the bosom of Abraham
He rocks my soul down in the bosom of Abraham
He rocks, hum-hum, oh yeah, oh Lawdy, Lord, oh rock my soul
Why don't you rock my soul
Won't you rock my soul down in the bosom of Abraham
He rocks, rocks, rocks, down in the bosom of Abraham
He rocks, hum-hum, oh yeah, oh Lawdy, Lord, oh rock my soul
Why don't you rock my soul
Well a rich man lived, He lived so well
Children, when he died I'm at home in heaven
Why don't you rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham
He rocks, rocks, rocks, down in the bosom of Abraham
He rocks, hum-hum, oh yeah, oh Lawdy, Lord
Once again... (repeat)
