A short explanation for visitors who are not aware of the club movement in the UK:
Social clubs developed in the UK in parallel to the well known public houses (pubs). These clubs are owned by the members and operate on a non-profit basis which keeps the prices at very competitive levels. Clubs are often focused at the centre of the local community offering a range of social activities and are the main venue, and often the only venue, for live entertainment in their area.
The CIU - The Club and Institute Union, is now the largest non-profit making social entertainment and leisure organisation in the UK, representing the interests and views of six million club members in several thousand venues.
We like to think that Rotherham leads the way in Internet activity for clubs and, as far as we are aware, the Rotherham Clubbers website is the original district wide journal.
