Introduction

This is an attempt to identify all known Elvis Presley Bootleg CDs.  Since new Elvis bootleg CDs are released on a continuous basis, this listing will always be classified as a work-in-progress. Also, to keep the anonymity of the bootleggers, details of new discs will not be added immediately.  Each disc will eventually have the following information: Label and ref # of disc; sound quality rating (these are subjective at best); time the disc runs; release date (approximate).  A link to the cover art will be provided (where artwork is available); the comments column will provide information of what is contained on the disc and list different pressings where known.

The very nature of bootlegs is shrouded in secrecy.  No-one wants to admit to knowing anything about them for fear that they will come under close scrutiny by the authorities.  Therefore the people in the know, the bootleggers themselves, have provided very little information contained in these pages.  What is interesting is the BMG/RCA already know who most of the bootleggers are and where the discs are being released onto the market.  For the most part they do not seem to mind live shows (preferably with poor sound) being "released".  However they do object very strongly to material that they wish to release themselves coming out on bootlegs and on a few occasions have taken action to effectively close down the market.  A case in point was the release of "There's A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" where RCA sent out a mass mailing to all bootleggers and dealers threatening legal action unless they stopped dealing in this type of disc.  The effect on the market was phenomenal.  Bootleggers stopped making discs with some of the major labels at that time disappearing.  Dealers stopped selling them, ditching the back catalogue so they couldn't be fined (I'm told the threat was a £10,000 fine plus the option of imprisonment).  To this day many of the older producers and suppliers are still wary of this product.  This market is only just starting to find it's feet again with new bootleggers springing up and one or two of the older ones appearing under different labels.

This site is a result of over five years of research for a book I wanted to write.  Indeed I did write the book and constantly use the manuscript for my own purposes.  However publishers were not optimistic that sales would be good and I do not have the finances, savvy or inclination to do it myself.  That is not to say that in the future I would not publish it.

The information supplied on this site has come from a variety of  sources. I will say up front that I have not got all these discs.  Many I haven't even heard and I'm relying on information supplied to me by many fans who wish to pass on the information.  Release dates, in particular are very hazy, and many are taken from publication of disc details in various fan magazines, hence a release date listing of several months instead of one day. Unfortunately, I was not able to gather 100% of the information to complete this listing, so there are many holes to be filled. In addition, as with any endeavour of this size and scope, there are bound to be many errors. If you spot errors/omissions and can provide the necessary information to correct this listing for future updates, please e-mail the changes to me.

A great deal of information was taken from the internet.  In particular there are several sites that have become indispensable and links will be added to these at a future date.

Eventually I'll put up a list of people who have contributed information.  If you have helped me in any way with this task and DO NOT wish to be acknowledged let me know and I'll remove your name from the list.

Thanks for looking.
