Wintersun 1st to 11th June 2007
Wintersun 2007 starts on Friday 1st June and ends with the huge Best of Wintersun Concert on Monday 11th June. Wintersun is Australia's leading annual Retro Nostalgia Festival. Featuring over 1000 Hot Rods, Custom and Classic Cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, street parade and competitions. The festival is held in the border coastal towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads on the New South Wales & Queensland border. Many events are free, some are in the streets while others are in the local clubs and shopping centres.
The Wintersun Festival is proud to announce that it has signed an agreement with Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE) to produce an official preliminary contest in EPE's worldwide search for the Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year. The winner will represent Wintersun, The Gold Coast and Australia, traveling to Memphis to compete in the first Elvis tribute artist contest ever presented by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE). EPE's Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will take place in August during this year¹s edition of EPE's annual Elvis® Week. The winner of that competition will be named the Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year. To narrow the field, contestants will be selected from the winners of contests and festivals around the globe, such as The Wintersun Festival, that have signed up with EPE to host an official preliminary.
While Wintersun would love to see an Australian named Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year, we are not restricting entry into our qualifying round. With such global interest we anticipate Elvis tribute artists from New Zealand and South East Asia will also try and qualify at the Wintersun Festival.
To enter the competition contestants must be over 18, however, we will also include some junior competitions for up and coming young artists, as well as some fun events for those who may not yet be up to world standard.
Festival Director Barry McNamara said, "As part of the 20th Birthday Celebrations planned for Wintersun 2007 we had already planned a significant Elvis event to commemorate the 30th anniversary year of his passing. Being part of this global event will further enhance Wintersun as the leading Retro Nostalgia event of Australia and with international promotion by Wintersun and Elvis Presley Enterprises, Coolangatta and Tweed Heads can expect a huge influx of Elvis tribute artists."
