"Elvis In Madison"
We've had several albums before including the name "One Night" on
different labels. For example, FTD's album
One Night In Vegas.
Bootlegs albums are
One Night In Portland,
One Night At The Omni
and
One Night In Alabama.
This time we simply get One Night. This show was recorded on June
24, 1977. Elvis Presley did several shows in mid June 1977. Two examples
are the beautiful TV show - Elvis In Concert - recorded on June 19 and 21
1977 for CBS. After that he went to several cities before go back to
Memphis. Unfortunately these concerts were his final concerts.
He was in Madison this time and his fans were ready for going wild. This
is an audience recording and the sound quality not too good. But if you
like his final shows this album is ideal for you. The CD has several
pictures from 1977 with Elvis' famous 'Mexican Sundial Suit'. He was
unhealthy and tired on his last shows, but you can feel that he is still
King when you listen to this album. 'You Gave Me Mountain' and 'And Love
You So' are great performances. But the most important song on this album
is his 1957 classic 'One Night'. Elvis did this song many times between
1970-1972. On the later years it was dropped from his repertoire. This is
the final version, but unfortunately it is incomplete.
You can hear other good performances on this album. Like 'Love Me Tender'
(last live version), 'I Really Don't Want To Know' and 'If You Love Me'.
The Sherill Nielsen songs are missing. 'Love Me' is incomplete too.
Another important note about this show, drummer Ronnie Tutt was not there.
Jerome Monroe replaced him. A final note: If you don't like audience
recordings probably you don't like this CD. But it is a historical show
from his final tour.
