On January 16th 1957, Too Much was number 2 on the Hot 100 chart and remained on this chart for seventeen weeks, it stayed on the Country chart for fourteen weeks, where it entered at number 5 on January 23rd. The Rhythm & Blues chart had Too Much at the number 7 slot, where it remained for eight weeks. Playing For Keeps was number 24 on the Hot 100 chart on January 23rd it remained on the chart for nine weeks.

This 45 was released in the UK under the His Master's Voice label, catalogue No. Pop 330, but this was different from the US release, Too Much was the A-Side, this entered the chart on May 16th 1957 and peaked at number 6 on the chart, it had a purple label with gold lettering and later pressings with silver lettering.
