Matrix numbers: G2WW-1255-1S A2 / G2SS-1230-2S A2 Elvis recorded "Blue Suede Shoes" at RCA's New York Studio on January 30th 1956, the main reason for this session was to lay down tracks for his album release, and according to Sam Phillips, Steve Sholes promised not to release the track as a single, while Carl Perkins's record was still in the chart. According to Scotty Moore, Elvis made the song as more a tribute to his friend more than anything else, he had been talking to the band about it, but wasn't sure he could better it, and then he just decided to do it, recalls Scotty. Elvis give this the full works, it is a touch faster and has more energy to it. "Tutti Frutti", was recorded the day after on the 31st though in my opinion Elvis doesn't quite capture the vibrant rawness of the original but still does a great vocal job on the track.
