Sun 217 Yellow Sun Label The label has Elvis Presley on one line, Scotty and Bill on another. Release number at bottom of the label Side A. Baby Let's Play House Side B. I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone On July 6th, 1955, Baby Let's Play House reached the number 10 slot on Billboard's Country chart. It remained on the chart for fifteen weeks. In Early 1955, possibly February, although again the exact date is unknown, Elvis, Scotty and Bill were back at Sun, at this session they started off doing two numbers, Ray Charles's "I Got A Woman" and "Trying To Get To You", both would end up on Elvis' debut album, after these two number, they started to concentrate on the A-side of Elvis' next single, a cover of R&B artist Arthur Gunter's hit "Baby Let's Play House". As he becomes more assured, you can see that after every release he is using them as a way of exploring different approaches and voices, "Baby Let's Play House" opens with playful hiccupping, even the lyrics are strong, at one point even threats the girl in the song, at one point stating "I'd rather see you dead, little girl than to be with another man". Scotty's two guitar solos are fantastic, his first is laid back but his second is more choppier and Bill's bass is rich and prominent. Sam wanted to broaden Elvis' appeal, so he turned to a young steel guitarist who had been hanging around Sun, Stan Kesler came up with, "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone", and would become the flipside for Baby Let's Play House, it was taken at a much slower pace than most of the other Sun singles and was the first time to feature drums at an Elvis session |
