A rather unusual premise for a book. Not satisfied with writing about the possibility that Elvis may have faked his own death, (which at least gives the gullible fans the opportunity to fantasise that their hero may still be alive and ready to make new recordings), this guy - Harley Hatcher - came up with this much more bizarre idea.
He claims that while Elvis was serving his country in the Army, for a brief period he was stationed at another previously undocumented base with the author, and living under the assumed name of John Crow. And er....that's it. No witness protection program, nothing. The media say he was in one place, this guy says he was in another. Oh, and John Crow made some recordings. But they're not available for us to hear. And neither are there any photographs.
Weird....just weird. Mind you, if you're prepared to suspend your disbelief for a few hours, it is a surprisingly readable (and somewhat plausible) book. In the end you have to ask yourself whether (like those people who say they've been abducted by aliens) this guy is (a) a liar, (b) not too bright and actually believes what he's written is true, or (c) a mental case.
I don't know, but if you ever see the book cheap, pick it up and buy it. It'll pass the time on a wet afternoon.
